The Field Elm Ulmus minor sensu latissimo cultivar 'Sowerbyi' was described (as Ulmus nitens var. sowerbyi Moss) by Moss [2] in Cambr. Brit. Fl. 2: 90. 1914.
A smaller tree than 'Hunnybunii', the branches shorter and the upper ones very tortuous; leaves smaller and acute [1].
Probably extinct, the tree was commonly planted in the UK in the early 20th century before the advent of Dutch elm disease.
